Over the decades, the building density has steadily increased and currently comprises 17 buildings. In the course of the planned construction works, the site will be completely remodelled. The demolition of two buildings, the construction of one new building and the further development of the existing historical buildings will create an inviting, open-plan and inspiring environment with a high amenity value. The creation of an open space in the centre of the site will allow for extensive depaving and the planting of a tree-lined walkway. The site will be entirely pedestrianised, the buildings will be accessible, and the entrance to the complex will be opened up towards Lake Feuersee, offering employees and guests a contemporary and friendly reception. In a development designed by Berlin-based architectural firm Bruno Fioretti Marquez, the historic building will be preserved and sensitively renovated.
According to the Spokesperson of the Klett Group Management Board, Philipp Haußmann, remaining true to the Stuttgart location while significantly improving the site’s green credentials were top priorities: “We have been based in Stuttgart-West ever since our inception and remain committed to the area. Through our site transformation, we are demonstrating how urban greening can be implemented successfully. We are delighted that this has resulted in our acceptance into the IBA’27 project portfolio and that we will be doing our bit to create a city worth living in.”
For Andreas Hofer, Artistic Director of IBA’27, the transformation of Klett’s long-standing headquarters represents a bold move by the company: “The smart concept addresses issues relating to the future of city centre working, climate adaptation and the creation of green open spaces. The project represents a clear commitment by Klett to its urban location. We very much look forward to the project and a respectful, open and trusting cooperation with everyone involved in it. We are certain that, in 2027, we will be able to demonstrate a project that stands out, not through flashy architecture, but through its sensitive development of the existing city and important contribution to a Productive City”, concluded Hofer at the signing of the cooperation agreement.
